Dog Rescue

CHEW sets out to rescue abandoned dogs, dogs slated for euthanasia due to shelter space limitations, and other dogs in need. We are currently working to find additional foster homes and acquire funding for veterinary care and other essential dog services. We host adoption outreach events at Sophie's Touch from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. on the first Sunday of each month, at Mud Bay from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. on the second Friday and Saturday of each month and Petco from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. on the fourth Friday of each month. All adoption events are located in Gig Harbor at this time.

Cleo

8 months old

Chihuahua

Adoption Fee: $300

Cleo is a sweet 8 month old female who loves to cuddle and race around a yard. She's new to CHEW and we will update this as we learn more about her.
Gates
4 years old
German Shepherd/Lab

Gates

4 years old

German Shepherd/Lab

Adoption Fee: $250

Gates is a 4 year old German Shepherd/lab mix. He is a bit of a fearful dog and takes time to trust new people...meanwhile he tries to physically avoid them. Gates gets along with other dogs and has lived with cats and children. He's sweet, not at all aggressive. He has done well being left alone in his previous owners house, but had separation issues at his former foster home. At this point Gates needs a foster home that can help him with his fear and separation issues--even better, a forever home that can do the same. Once Gates gets past these challenges he will be a great companion. (He would be happy to sleep on your bed...even share your pillow.)
Sweetie
2-3 yrs.
Mixed

Sweetie

2-3 yrs.

Mixed

Adoption Fee: $250

Sweetie's name fits her as she is the mildest mannered, gentle and most well behaved dog. She is probably 2-3 yrs old, and a mixed breed...we think she may have Chesapeake Retriever in her. Sweetie knows basic commands, sit, down, shake, stay and walks well on leash. She loves to ride in cars. She will sit quietly while you stroke her head and loves to be brushed. Sweetie will do best in a home with adults only. She weighed in at 61 lbs on her last vet visit. And while she’ll do best with a fenced yard (not invisible fence) a fenced yard isn't required if she will be getting daily exercise. Sweetie came to CHEW Dog Rescue as a pregnant stray. After finding all 9 of her pups their forever homes it is Sweetie's turn.
Katy
Approx. 2 yrs
Terrier Mix

Katy

Approx. 2 yrs

Terrier Mix

Adoption Fee: $250

Katy had a rough start in life but is looking to become a loyal companion. She is approximately 32 lbs. Katy is timid and shy but slowly warms up to people. She is very playful and gets along great with other dogs. She is a bit prey-driven so NO CATS. Katy will need a fenced yard and someone who will keep her busy! She currently lives with two other dogs and is having a blast playing tug-o-war and chase! She does very well in a crate and is house trained. With lots of love and patience, Katy will make a wonderful companion!
Milo
maybe 2 or 3 years
Australian Shepherd

Milo

maybe 2 or 3 years

Australian Shepherd

Adoption Fee: $250

Milo is a sweet Australian Shepherd male. We think he might be 2 or 3 years old. He is missing one of his front legs which was amputated after he was hit by a car some time ago. So he kind of hops like a bunny to get around. Milo is new to our rescue so we will be updating his listing as we learn more about him.
Odo
4 years old
Pomeranian mix (we think)

Odo

4 years old

Pomeranian mix (we think)

Adoption Fee: $300

Odo is a four year old Pomeranian mix (we think) who came to us because his daddy could not keep him at his assisted living home. He has a very sweet nature and loves just just hanging out and being loved. He is a lower activity boy so would be a great dog for a family without small children or for an older person who would like a great companion. He is currently about 25 pounds but still needs to loose a few pounds. He is great with other dogs and although he has been head shy when reached out to he has really improved and is becoming very outgoing.
Max
2 years
Golden Retriever/hound mix

Max

2 years

Golden Retriever/hound mix

Adoption Fee: $250

Max is a 2 year old Golden Retriever/hound mix. He’s a smart and very friendly boy that gets along with other dogs and all kinds of people. He’s rambunctious, so he’s probably not the right dog for a family with very young children. Max lives with a cat, but often annoys her by chasing her around the house. He needs to be rehomed because his former family does not have a fenced yard so he’s being tethered when he is outside…they know he needs more. Max also needs a foster home after the first week of September. Max has just come into our rescue so we will be updating this posting as we learn more about him.
Dex
2 years
3/4 Lab, 1/4 Boxer

Dex

2 years

3/4 Lab, 1/4 Boxer

Adoption Fee: $250

Dex is a 2 year old 3/4 lab/1/4 boxer mix. He weighs about 80 pounds. Because of a family member’s allergies he has been an entirely outdoor dog since he was 5 months old. He’s been good with other dogs—never met a cat—and great with the family’s little children. He would love to be an indoor dog again—he enjoys being around people all the time. Dex likes playing in water, car rides, and will chase after anything you throw and will sometimes even bring it back to you. He LOVES any and all attention and is always SO happy. He eagerly greets every person/child/animal that comes to his house with a happy, wagging tail. Because Dex needs a fenced yard (not invisible fence) and someone who has time to give him the exercise he needs, his family has decided to rehome him—and want him to enjoy the companionship of being an indoor member of a family.
Koko
3 years
Terrier/Maltese mix

Koko

3 years

Terrier/Maltese mix

Adoption Fee: $300

Are you looking for an affectionate canine companion? Meet Koko! She’s adorable little Terrier-Maltese mix who loves to snuggle, cuddle, and have her belly rubbed. She will thrive in a home where she can receive lots of love and attention. She is happiest curling up in your lap or under your chin when taking a nap or relaxing after a walk or playtime. Everyone falls in love with Koko as soon as they meet her. She is a little feisty when she meets other animals, but once she gets to know another pet, she loves to play with them. She truly is a sweet, loyal dog looking for a kind loving home. Koko is 3 years old and weighs 10 pounds.
