Dog Rescue

CHEW sets out to rescue abandoned dogs, dogs slated for euthanasia due to shelter space limitations, and other dogs in need. We are currently working to find additional foster homes and acquire funding for veterinary care and other essential dog services. We host adoption outreach events at Sophie's Touch from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. on the first Sunday of each month, at Mud Bay from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. on the second Friday and Saturday of each month and Petco from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. on the fourth Friday of each month. All adoption events are located in Gig Harbor at this time.

Sugar

9 years

American Eskimo dog

Adoption Fee: $150

Sugar is a 9 year-old beauty, mid-sized at approximately 26 pounds. She is housetrained and has an A++ personality! She loves going for walks with her foster family and all the attention she receives. She gets along with dogs and cats alike. Sugar has elevated liver enzymes and therefore has to be fed special food from the vet to give her liver support. She is very lively and certainly doesn't know she is 'special'! She acts perfectly healthy, lively and very playful with her foster brothers and sisters.
Bailey

Lab mix

Bailey

1-2 years

Lab mix

Adoption Fee: $250

Bailey is a 1-2 yr old black Labrador mix. He apparently injured his left hip and that affects how much and what kind of exercise he can have without ending up in pain. But he'll be a great companion and walking partner. Meet him and you will fall in love with him. He's house trained, gets along well with other dogs, is a good passenger in the van and has free reign of the house. Look into those eyes of his and you'll know sweetness. Bailey is a very special boy. And Bailey needs a fenced yard (not invisible fence).
Topol

Italian Greyhound mix

Topol

1 year

Italian Greyhound mix

Adoption Fee: 300

Topol is a one year old bundle of joy who loves to play with toys as much as he loves to snuggle with his people. He prefers to sleep in his crate at night and has been very good about potty training. Topol shares his foster family with another dog and seems fine around other dogs. Because of his size, he needs a home with either no children or older children.
Reva

Golden Retriever mix (we think)

Reva

2 1/2

Golden Retriever mix (we think)

Adoption Fee: $250

Reva is a Golden Retriever mix girl (we think), weighing about 50lbs. She goes to work with her foster mom at a doggy daycare and does great with the dogs there. She’s good with cats and puppies too as long as they give her space. And she’s good with respectful kids. She’s potty trained and is safe being left alone loose in the house. Reva loves to cuddle and is happy doing whatever you are doing; she likes car rides, hiking, going the beach, etc. She needs a person or family that, in a firm but kind manner, makes sure she learns what behavior they want. She is a very sweet girl with a huge heart; she will make someone very happy. Reva does have some skin allergies that are likely food-related. We are working to learn what she is allergic to so her new family will know what foods she can have and what to avoid. Reva needs a home with a fenced yard (not an invisible fence).

Sailor is an adorable little poodle mix. Lively and Intelligent. He likes most people and dogs, rides well in the car and loves his walks. He is still working a bit on walking on the leash and potty training. He loves to play with his toys but is also affectionate and willing to cuddle with his person. Sailor would do well with respectful children over 7 years of age. He weighs about 17 lbs. Is 1-2 years old and is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations.

Miniature Poodle Mix

Adoption Fee: $300

Flower – a Miniature Poodle Mix – is just what her name implies – a pretty, little flower, with interesting markings - a charcoal and white body, and a silver head. She is very loving and calm and seems to have been trained well in her previous life. Because she lived with an elderly woman, she learned to be careful not to tangle with her human’s feet. She loves to go for walks and possesses good leash etiquette. She is housebroken, crate-trained and comes quickly when called. Because of her submissive nature, she gets along well and enjoys being with other dogs and cats; however, she also enjoys spending time with her human - cuddling and snuggling, and looking at you with adoring eyes. Though she is a bit timid when introduced to strangers, she warms up when she realizes she has nothing to fear. Flower would do best in a calm home. Another small animal friend would be a plus but not a necessity. She would do best in a home adults or with respectful children 8 years and older.

Callie - Adoption Pending

10 years

Miniature Poodle

Adoption Fee: $300

Callie is a very sweet dog. She is 10 years old. She is calm and does very well around all people. She also gets along well with other dogs. We do not know how she does with cats but she is so easy going she would probably be fine. She would do well in a home with children 10+ or an “empty nest” home, as she is so calm and enjoys just hanging out with us. She walks on a leash well and enjoys her time outside. She is getting used to a routine and is doing well with potty training. Callie would be a great dog and loyal companion for someone that has time to just be with her, she does not require much attention or exercise. She also enjoys car rides. She is playful and loves to cuddle when she can. She is a wonderful poodle!
Wicket

Havanese

Wicket

1 year

Havanese

Adoption Fee: $400

Wicket will steal your heart! He is almost a year old, a little over 7 lbs., and a purebred Havanese. He came into foster care as a guy who wasn’t potty trained, but 2 weeks later he’s 95% there. He has had a couple of episodes of excitement urination, but he gives really good cues when he wants to go outside to potty. He is really sensitive to loud voices and noises. We have been working to build his confidence by teaching basic commands – come, sit, down. He does pretty well on those commands when he is on the leash…he will just need reinforcement. He is prone to separation anxiety and will bark and cry when his person is out of his line of sight. We are going to start going to doggie daycare this week for a couple of hours at a time to see if we can get over this anxiety. He loves to go to the dog park and will jog for over a mile – looking over his shoulder at his big dog foster brother for reassurance. He loves the beach and has adapted to any new situation he’s been in as long as his person is close by. He is a little shy but will warm up to women, small dogs, and large dogs pretty quickly. He is a little timid around men – but foster dad gives him treats and a good morning and good night cuddle – maybe men won’t be so scary after all! He has come a long way in a short period of time. When Wicket feels confident he turns into a little playful clown. He races around the house and grabs toys to throw at your feet. He will jump in your lap and give you neck nuzzles. He will even drag his little coat over and drop it at your feet….hint-hint “let’s go for a walk.” He has the Havanese springy and jaunty gait and is adorable. He is really smart and learns quickly. Wicket would do best in a home without children. He would also do best in a home with another dog – he really gains confidence from other canine buddies. His groomer said that he has “cotton-like” hair and he will require professional grooming every 5-6 weeks.
Kolby

Boxer Mix

Kolby

9 months

Boxer Mix

Adoption Fee: $250

Kolby is a handsome energetic 9 month old Boxer mix. He is very friendly with people and other dogs and, crate trained, and reliably house trained. He is very food motivated and knows some tricks (sit, shake, lay down). Kolby would like to sleep on your bed, but settles for a dog bed nearby. Kolby enjoys running, going for walks, and hikes. He is working on riding safely in the car (he would like to drive the car or sit on your lap while you do). Kolby does not know how big he is (he weighs about 70 lbs.) and is clumsy, so he should not go to a home with small children because he may accidentally knock them over. Kolby's current foster family does not include any cats, so we are unsure how he would react to them. Kolby has gotten along well with an older female dog in the home, even when she isn't very nice to him. Kolby needs a home with a fenced yard (not invisible fence).
Blanche

French Bulldog

Blanche

5 years

French Bulldog

Adoption Fee: $400

This is Blanche, an adorable little 5 year old French Bulldog. She enjoys regular walks, playing fetch, cuddling with her human and car rides. She may meet people enthusiastically with a little wiggle butt. But that enthusiasm can be short-lived and turn to potential aggression toward a person who hasn't spent some significant time earning her trust. Playing with other dogs seems new to Blanche but she has learned to trust and play with some dogs that are introduced to her properly. Blanche needs a home with someone who can patiently work with her on trust building...an adult only home. And she’d love to have a fenced yard (not invisible fence) to run around and play in safely.

Silky Terrier Mix

Adoption Fee: $300

Niko appears to be a Silky Terrier mix. He is a year old and 17 lbs of pure puppy! He is very friendly, good with kids over the age of 6. He is still learning basic manners so his new forever family will need to commit to continue his training. He likes to chew so he needs plenty of chew toys. Niko loves to play with his foster brother and loves lap time, too. He needs an owner who is willing to brush him regularly (not his favorite, but its necessary). He is microchipped and up to date on vaccinations.

Terrance is a one year old Terrier mix. He has a playful spirit and is good with other dogs. He loves his toys and playing tug or fetch... but he is still working on bringing them back to you! He loves to fall asleep on his foster parents' laps. He loves good belly rugs and car rides. He is still working on potty training - you will need to watch for signs for him to go outside. He is crate trained and keeps his foster parents laughing... he will be great in any family household!
Calli

Calli

1 1/2 years

Doberman/Collie mix

Adoption Fee: 250

Calli is an athletic, fun-loving, and affectionate mixed breed girl who is about 1 1/2 years old. She loves to run and play in the yard with her foster mom’s dog, and to jump and chase the ball. She is the ideal dog for someone who loves to be outdoors, has older children or is interested in dog agility. Her heart is full of love and affection for people, especially her people. She is intelligent and open to training. She will cuddle on your lap if you want her to or will seek out your affection in other ways. She settles down nicely but needs daily exercise. She is a lovely dog. She would do well in a home with another dog about her size to play with and a fenced yard (no invisible fence) preferably 6 feet tall. Calli is, spayed, up to date on vaccinations and microchipped.

Long haired Chihuahua

Adoption Fee: $250

Do you like to go for leisurely strolls in the park, followed by snuggle time on the couch? Well, meet Bobo! He is a dapper little dog who is 100% ready to charm the socks off anyone he meets. This sweet 7-pound boy is the perfect combination of affection and independence. He is not the type to watch the world go by from a safe little corner, oh no! Bobo is adventurous, always ready to try something new. He is surprisingly confident, considering his diminutive size. He has an adventurous spirit. His ears are perky and his tail is wagging. Bobo is not much of a barker, so he would be great in an apartment or condo setting. He is fully potty-trained, amazingly well-mannered on a leash, comfortable with strangers, and gets along well with other animals. Bobo would do best in a household without high-energy, large dogs. He would also be happiest in a place ready to take him for regular walks. He has just discovered the joy of walks, and his excitement when it's time to go is priceless. With his silly little personality and funny ways, he is ready to bring a smile to your face.

Crouton

Terrier Mix

Crouton

1.5-2 years

Terrier Mix

Adoption Fee: $300

Crouton is a 1 ½ to 2 y/o terrier mix that likes car rides and playing fetch. He settles down in and outside of his kennel while in the car. He likes to go for walks and is getting better at not pulling. For playing fetch, he will go after a squeaky toy but has a hard time bringing it directly back to you, with more practice it wouldn’t take much to do. He is really good around small children. Recently was introduced to a 1 ½ y/o toddler and did really well.

Jasper

Puppy

Chihuahua

Adoption Fee: $300

Jasper is the smaller of two puppies currently in foster care with their CHEW family and mom Juliet. He left the bed first to wander out around the room, ate big boy food first and went potty on the big boy potty pad first. He was also the first to go and say hi to his foster siblings (all 5 of them!) and take the stairs up onto the couch to lay with them all. He's quite the little adventurous soul!

Yorkie

Adoption Fee: $250

Hello my name is Kirby I'm about 9 yrs old, a happy healthy 15 lb Yorkie. I don't shed and don't mind being brushed and I’m looking for a quiet home . I get along with just about everyone but what I really want is a constant companion. I absolutely love car rides and lazy days! I need to be able to sleep on foot of the bed with my new mom and or dad. I will bark when I need to potty and I walk on a leash very nicely. I will also stand by my dish and bark to let you know it's breakfast and dinner time... I do ok with kids but don't want to live with them on a daily basis. I don't mind cats or other dogs but I have no desire to play…I really just want to lay by my person and be close. (Kirby has been returned to us due to no fault of his own.)
